Tony Laumberg is the driving force behind BIG SPLASH PRODUCTIONS and is one of the newest emerging talents in the Australian film and theatre industries. Following successful careers as one of the leading stand-up comedians in the country and a writer/performer on various radio and television shows, Tony looked for a new challenge and applied himself to screenplay writing, soon finding enthusiastic response from feature film producers.
In just the last few years Tony has had 3 of his screenplays and 1 of his plays optioned and has received 4 development grants from the Australian Film Commission and the New South Wales Film and Television Office.
In recent years, Tony has refined his writing skills by writing and producing 6 short films.
His 5th, And The Winner Is…, was a finalist in the 2002 comedychannel Film Festival, was screened in 2002 on rotation on the comedychannel for 12 months, was screened at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 4 times and was screened at the London Comedy Festival twice as well as being a featured presentation at the Deaf Film Festival.
August 2002 saw the world premiere of Tony's first play in Sydney, Unsolicited Male, a semi-autobiographical comedy about a young lawyer torn between his career and his dream of writing film scripts. It finished a 2-week season at the TAP Gallery with sell-out performances. Public demand resulted in the play moving to the Edge Theatre, Newtown over a 4 week season in 2003.
In addition, Tony's 2nd play, The Great Divide, had its premiere at the Edge Theatre in August 2003 followed by his 3rd play, The Lucky One, at NIDA in March 2004.
A 4th play, Lawyer! Lawyer!, ran at the TAP Gallery in March 2005 as did his fifth play, Lawyers in Love, in May 2006.
This was followed by a children's show,The Adventures of Bunter from the Hinterland, in August 2006.
Tony’s 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th plays, My Fair Lawyer, 2 Weddings & A Lawyer, Bondi Legal and Undercover Lawyer ran at the TAP Gallery in May 2007, May 2008, May 2009 and August 2010 respectively.
His 11th play, Find Me a Lawyer!, ran at the Newtown Theatre in August 2011 and had the highest average attendance per performance of any of his plays to date.
Murder Most Funny! played at the TAP Gallery in August 2012, and Tony’s 13th play, The Good, The Bad & The Lawyer, begins at the Tap Gallery in October 2013.
