At the other end of the age scale, the playwright Tony Laumberg is not much older than Clift and his mates were when they went off to war.
An emerging talent whose CV lists lawyer, stand-up comic, radio and TV performer and screenwriter, Laumberg has already had three screenplays optioned and received a swag of grants from the Australian Film Commission and the NSW Film and Television Office.
Unsolicited Male was his first play.
It premiered at Darlinghust's Tap Gallery last August. Essentially a comedy of manners, it sees ambitious young lawyer William trying to impress his boss over dinner when his scruffy dad arrives unannounced - and decares he has left his wife.
Until Sunday. The Edge Theatre, corner King and Bray Streets, Newtown.
Tuesday-Saturday, 8pm. Saturday & Sunday, 5pm. $24/$18.
